Update 8/30/14: Cuban Confederate Soldiers from Alabama, 1861-1865  This booklet is the first in the series "Ethnic Minorities in the Confederate Military". It lists 20 Cuban born and or partial descendant's of Cuban's who served in the Confederate Military, from Alabama between 1861 and 1865. It lists their names, ranks and units, as well as known Biographical Information on each Soldier. This is a truly "forgotten" aspect of the Confederate Military, the Civil War and Cuban History. It makes a great resource for Historians, Genealogists, Civil War Scholars and anyone interested in Ethnic participation in the Confederate Military, as well a those interested in Cuba

You were an astro on this earth to all those who knew and loved you. Your passing last November 4th was a shock to all and reminder how short life can be,  But I hope your example will help everyone who you touched to live their lives to the fullest and keep learning their history because like you always used to say, if we don't do it who will? John O'Donnell Rosales, R.I.P.

John O'Donnell Rosales, Piki as we all affectionately called him, my cousin, passed away yesterday afternoon following a heart attack. It is an immeasurable loss for our family.

He was the most energetic person I've ever met with an incredible love of life and family and who always faced the world with eyes wide open. He was smart as a whip, would be the first one there fighting against any injustice, and wasn't just a steadfast Patriot and son of America, but a believer and fighter for the freedom of Cuba and her people.

He not only traced our family back for generations and generations but always kept his thumb on our family's pulse and was always the first with a kind word or gesture, a congratulation or a sincere condolence. Piki was, truly, the absolute best our family had to offer.

Rest in peace, Primo. You're in good company now.

Welcome to the new Cuba Libre Camp, established to honor and preserve the legacy of my beloved cousin, the author, teacher, historian and Cuban exile John O' Donnell Rosales.
